Phar Kim Beng, PhD (Meiji), Malaysian, was formerly the Senior Writer of The Straits Times Singapore while based at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Harvard University between 1998-2001. In Harvard, he received multiple Derek Bok Teaching Distinction Awards in such BA and MA coursed as Cultural Revolution of China, Modern China, Asian International Relations, Confucianism, War and Peace Since the 15th Century and Modern Economic History.
Between 2002-2003, he was based in University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong as a Senior Research Associate and Tutor in Politics, Democratic Studies and Asian Pacific Track 2 Diplomacy. He published extensively as an Op Ed Specialist in The Straits Times, The South China Morning Post, The Edge, Nikkei, Asahi Shimbun, Awani, Bernama, Malaysia Kini, New Straits Times and The Star. He was previously the Director of ASEAN in the Political and Security Community and a columnist of The Jakarta Post since August 2019.
He is CEO of Strategic Pan Indo Pacific Arena which is based in Kuala Lumpur with plans to expand to London and Cambridge, where he is a Senior Advisor to the Blue bridge Education Group.
